releasing the pressure

nothing quite knocks the wind out of writing like being stifled by obligation. perhaps you have a lot of time on your hands, or it’s been a while since you wrote, but you feel an irking tap of guilt or ridicule on your shoulder.

i’m not talking about being inspired or compelled, feeling the need to create as you’re swept along. no, i’m referring to duty, when you write because you “should”.

living life away from the paper, and letting the inspiration build, precludes reaching for the pen. free from pressure will mean free to write most authentically.
