before it ever hits a page, writing is a thought that happens in your head. sometimes you’ve long mulled it over and have it neatly organized into tidy strings. other times it's a big tangled mess.
the trick to detangling the mess is just to start, wherever you can. just to get it out. remove your ego, your judgment of the words as they appear on the page. they can be refined, removed, or replaced later.
start with whatever you can, or else the big tangled mess will only ever be a thought that happens in your head.
